Either Way, I Don't Get Enough Sleep, So There's That
-
Everything You Know Is Wrong: They keep telling us that we don't get enough sleep. Americans, they say, are killing themselves by not getting enough sleep. But now we find out that when studying indigenous tribes on other continents who have none of the distractions and time considerations we have, those people get about the same amount of sleep as we do, and are perfectly healthy and not affected at all. Seems that the prevailing scientific assumption that we awaken with the sun but that artificial light has caused us to stay up too late is false, and people with no artificial light stay awake three to four hours past sunset and get up about an hour before sunrise, totalling about 6 1/2 hours of sleep. So, we might want to change our assumptions now. (New York Times)
