In the town where I grew up, there was a neighborhood where a lot of people with German surnames lived, and the word was that there were several Nazi families there, which wasn't disproven when my dad ran for school board and won every district but that one, where they apparently didn't take kindly to Jewish candidates. Anyway, you'd think that now, a half-century later, those kinds of enclaves in the New York suburbs would be long gone, but out in Yaphank, Long Island, not only is there still a German enclave, but it's a private community where they had Nazi rallies during World War II and they STILL have restrictions requiring all homeowners to be of German origin. In America. In 2015. Still. Some of the residents want the restrictions lifted, less because it's the right thing to do than because it restricts how much they can get if they want to sell their houses, but for some reason, they never seem to get the German stuff out of there.
