A Pink Ribbon Isn't Enough
-
This comes up every October, and here it is again, at the end of the month, the resistance to the pink campaign for breast cancer awareness, not because the people against it are pro-cancer but because the pink stuff has become a marketing tool that doesn't help matters. Okay, I have an interest in this as a member of a breast cancer-affected family, and I've done fundraising for breast cancer charities. But I've always made sure it was for charities that funneled most or all of the money into research, not "awareness." "Awareness" is bullshit. EVERYONE'S AWARE ALREADY. What we need is a cure or better treatment or more available detection and services. And when we see the NFL pink everything up while most of the money they raise doesn't go to anything useful, it's enraging. Yeah, we're aware enough by now. Let's focus on research now.
