So You're Saying He's Not Welcome At The Family's Thanksgiving Dinner?
-
After the Paris attacks, you heard a lot of people talk about terrorists in the vein of "well, this is the result of poverty and marginalization; these people are desperate and feel they have no other choice." If that's your position, what do you make of the news that the fugitive involved in the attacks, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, was from a middle-class family and attended an exclusive private Catholic school? That doesn't seem like poverty. No, he fell into petty crime, and then terrorism, because he was a bad guy, so bad that when he went off to fight for ISIS, his own family was disappointed that he didn't get killed there. The "poverty and marginalization" theory doesn't hold up in this case. (New York Times)
