The Red Sox signed David Price for lots of money, and the topic for me is whether ANY ace pitcher is worth the kind of money these guys get. That's because by the time they're eligible free agents, the returns are usually diminishing. Not to say Price won't be huge for them in the short term -- he will win there -- but like Halladay and Sabathia and Lee and so many others, you get a couple of years and then you have a massive contract and no way out from it.
