When Video Games Just Don't Provide Enough Verisimilitude
-
What were we saying just the other day about young guys and blowing stuff up? It was most likely exactly that, the love of seeing things blow up, that led five fifth graders -- FIFTH graders -- to plot to blow up a high school assembly. (Do I need to repeat my story about my high school graduation -- just a few miles up Route 46 from this very incident -- ending with a cherry bomb injuring band members? No? Good.) The kids, aged 10 and 11, were not very good at the bomb-making thing, either -- the device was filled with vinegar and cinnamon and wouldn't have done a lot of damage -- but they WANTED to create havoc. And the kind of kids who'd want to blow stuff up on this level are usually not the brightest kids in their class, but that goes without saying. (WABC-TV/New York)
