You Bought It From An American Dealer? Then Call It American
-
By now, you should know that it's become almost impossible to define foreign or domestic cars by the name plate. Toyota may be Japan-based, but the car you buy in America was probably built in America and is more American than some domestic nameplates. You can't even tell the nationality of the ownership: my Volvo may have been made in Sweden by the quintessentially Swedish car maker, but Volvo Car Corp. is actually owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, which, obviously, is in China, and also, incidentally, owns The London Taxi Company, makers of the quintessentially British black London cab, made in Coventry. So, your "buy American" mindset needs to take a lot into account. (BBC)
