The President of a community college in Iowa is apologizing for plagiarizing part of a speech from a New York Times blog post. He read a passage without attribution. And it's yet another reminder that in the past, plagiarism meant instant expulsion and the necessity to seek another line of employment, but, today, a "sorry" and a shrug is usually enough. Not always, but I've seen it myself, plagiarism passed off as "well, he didn't know any better, no need to punish him, he knows better." It might be generational, that younger generations don't see stealing intellectual property as a crime. (Des Moines Register)
