Because Nobody's Even TRYING To Stop Them
-
We keep hearing of outrageous manipulation by oil refiners to keep gas prices high in California despite low crude prices, and nothing ever happens. We're still a buck more expensive than wherever you are (if you're not here like me). The latest: Consumer advocates want to know why a ship that was SUPPOSED to pick up gas from Singapore to bring back to California and relieve refinery-closing-related shortages sailed for 70 days but never brought gas back for us, stopping in L.A. but not unloading anything, instead bringing the gas to Florida, which didn't need it. Between questionably-scheduled refinery hiatuses, the very, very slow repair (and sale) of the Torrance refinery, and things like this "mystery ship," it seems like the refiners have questions to answer, but the state isn't really making them respond.
