After a decade-long battle, my hometown has finally issued a permit for Donald Trump's massive American flag at his golf course down the road from here. Years ago, Trump, to spite people who live across the main road from his golf course, put up a massive flag to interfere with their view, totally against local zoning laws; he apparently figured that he'd screw with their property values and claim patriotism as his defense. And it worked. The city lost the battle, because he just did what he wanted and dared them to fight the Red, White, and Blue. The flag's been there ever since, above his clubhouse, which, of course, has too much gold plating. But can I admit something here? The golf course (which he didn't build but took over) is actually pretty nice, and the restaurant there is good. There, I said it. But the flag's still just ostentatious, and just one of the things he's done to unnecessarily flip off the neighbors. (Daily Breeze, Torrance)
