Wait, So Your Job Isn't A 'Safe Space'?
-
The old story continues: Employers complain that they hire recent grads and find that they're deficient in essential skills like communicating, problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. The grads make it through college without learning to write, work with others, or anything else you need in business. The literacy part is a problem, but the other stuff is what you tend to learn with experience on the job, isn't it? Well, maybe you should learn critical thinking before setting out into the workforce, but that's something you learn by doing, whether it's in a classroom setting or an office. The schools, by the way, think they're doing just fine preparing students for the real world, and that's a fantasy, too. (Toronto Star)
