Oh, And We Can't Forget Jimmie's Used Auto Parts, Can We?
-
I don't normally use slideshows here, but this one is such a quick, easy, relatable topic for anyone who's looking for a totally non-political and totally local topic, plus is about something I remember well, that I could not resist: It's a selection of 10 cheesy old Philadelphia TV commercials anyone who lived in the Delaware Valley in the 70s and 80s will remember. I remember every single one. I can sing along with the Ideal jingle (and once you hear it, you will never forget it); I can imitate the late Benny Krass; I know the answer to "hey! Where did everybody go?" (and that it was different at the shore); I used to drink Frank's Black Cherry Wishniak; and I know that Big Marty... really does... sell carpet... cheaper. (And I can rattle off many more they didn't include, like "The boss' daughter (or wife) for Atlantic Transmissions," "Call For ACTION! Greenwood 7-5312!," and many more. And in your town, you had 'em, too, whether it was Crazy Eddie and JGE in New York, Cal Worthington and his "dog" Spot in L.A,, Harry Schmerler your Singing Ford Dealer in Chicago... what were the most memorable spots from your youth?
