Oh, Stop Whining That I Cut Down Your Precious Trees. Just Don't Look Up

The excuse this guy gave for cutting down his neighbor's trees because they blocked his view is that he didn't know they were the neighbor's trees. Because you would never check property lines before you hauled out the chainsaws. This happened pretty much up the street (a few miles, but still, right up the river) from where I used to live in Bucks County, and since I moved to California, I've encountered the same exact disputes in my new hometown: Someone has big old trees and someone else wants a view. We have view ordinances here, but it still gets ugly. Back in New Hope, the guy pleaded no contest to a felony, got five years' probation, and had to pay $260,000 to replace the trees, so the court wasn't buying his explanation. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
