You Get What You Pay For, Except When You Get Less

Remember the Megabus that broke down and then caught fire? The one we talked about recently, the one the New York Times reporter was on, the one he tweeted out pictures of as it erupted into flames? Here's a followup about how the passengers who had to leave their stuff on board as they hurriedly evacuated are being lowballed by Megabus on the compensation. They're being offered between $250 and $500 no matter how much the damages really were. And you can take them to small claims court and produce receipts and photos and proof, but they'll try to claim that everything you had was depreciated to nothing. They really don't seem to care that you might tell everyone you know that they shouldn't ride their buses. And they're probably right -- offer a low enough fare and people will put up with anything. You could get people on the Hindenburg II for the right low fare. (New York Times)
