Someone In The Marketing Department Is Probably Looking For A New Job Now
-
Either this is a why-we-can't-have-nice-things story or a story about a stupid corporate "contest" that deserved to be ruined, but Frontier Airlines' online poll to put a mascot -- they intended it to be a school mascot -- on the tail of one of its planes was scuttled because animal rights activists put a one-eyed chihuahua named Harley in the lead to protest puppy mills, and Frontier says that it was fraudulent because of bots voting. Like they would have cancelled the poll if it wasn't a "matter of controversy" like puppy mills. Memo to Frontier management, and any company tempted to do public online polls for anything: You are opening yourself up to things like this, and that's fine. Online polls are stupid. And if you ask the public to do marketing for you, you deserve what you get. (Los Angeles Times)
