A school in San Diego is dropping the name Robert E. Lee Elementary School for the obvious reason that he was a Confederate and... wait, why was a school in San Diego named after Robert E. Lee in the first place? Who thought that was a good idea? Even 57 years ago, when the school opened, that would have been weird. San Diego may be the southwesternmost city in the Continental U.S., but it's not in The South, not Robert E. Lee's South, anyway. (San Diego Union-Tribune)
