Plus, If You Drive, You Can Stop At South Of The Border

The thing about the Allegiant flight from Orlando (Sanford, actually) to Raleigh that was delayed for 10 hours due to electrical issue isn't just that you can drive from Orlando to Raleigh in less than 10 hours, easy, even with a stop or two. No, it's something that I think about when I'm flying airlines which have a limited number of flights and aircraft at my destination: Aren't you taking a chance when you fly an airline that can't just swap in another aircraft if there's a problem? I mean, you fly United out of Chicago or Delta out of Atlanta and you KNOW they have plenty of backup. I fly Virgin from LAX, which is OK, but I've been delayed when there's been a technical issue or a crew's been delayed, because LAX isn't their hub, SFO is. And Allegiant is one of those airlines that will give you a great deal but might not be as reliable as you need. Do you think about that when planning a trip? (WKMG-TV/Orlando)
