And There's Already A 'Washington, NC,' Too
-
If it ever gets statehood, Washington, D.C. would be called "New Columbia," because... wait, why would "District of Columbia" not be the name? I don't know. I do know that the statehood commission, headed by Mayor Bowser, was considering all sorts of names that would have preserved the "DC" abbreviation but went with "NC," which, someone should tell them, is presently in use.
