Who Needs The Hollywood Sign When You Could Cover The Hill With Condos?

This column by someone who worked on the building of the landmark wonders if skyrocketing land prices might convince developers to tear down the CN Tower in Toronto. After all, it's privately owned, and it's basically a TV antenna tower with nothing between the deck and the ground but a concrete stalk and an elevator. An office/residential/hotel tower would make MUCH more money... and deprive Toronto of the defining part of its skyline. Still, the downtown real estate is too valuable for mere landmarks, so... can you imagine YOUR city's landmarks being torn down to make way for something blander but more lucrative? (Toronto Star)
