Wait, So Not Every Game Is The Greatest Ever? Wow, Illusions Shattered
-
Whoops: You know how big companies are spending ridiculous amounts of money on hiring "influencers" -- YouTube "stars" and Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat users with big followings -- to market their stuff. One studio got caught by the FTC using gaming celebrities like PewDiePie (ask your kids) to tout a new video game in reviews that were insufficiently labeled as bought-and-paid-for. I mean, you know that in the Internet era when everyone can be a "critic," reviews are sometimes poorly-disguised ads, but it's pretty blatant and shameless when they tell the "reviewers" how to put any disclaimer low enough below the fold so that it's hidden by the "More" link in the YouTube description. You can't trust ANY reviews anymore. (Recode)
