If It Was Legal For Fred Flintstone, It Ought To Be Legal For Everyone Else
-
In San Diego, police tried to ticket a guy in a loincloth at a pride parade for public indecency. He refused to sign the citation. And then the prosecutors decided to drop the case, but he's now suing, and an appeals court says he can get a jury trial, which means that he and the city are piling up attorneys' fees into the seven figure range. And it all could have been avoided had the city just apologized and ripped up the citation before it got beyond that first encounter. Why do cities spend millions to fight cases they are likely to lose? Simple: It's not their money they're spending, it's yours. (KNBC-TV/Los Angeles)
