Since When Is Coaching Basketball Religious Instruction?
-
It's a never-ending debate: Do Catholic schools have a right to fire a teacher because he or she is gay? Paramus Catholic High School in New Jersey is being sued by a girl's basketball coach and instructor because she was fired for marrying a woman. The school says it's exempt from anti-discrimination rules because it's a religion thing and they have freedom of exercise of religion which trumps the employment law. The teacher says that the religion has nothing to do with the job, and that it was really retaliation for her whistleblowing abuse by other teachers. You know the battle lines. (Bergen Record)
