Free The Sand

An apartment building on the beach on the Redondo-Hermosa border did something pretty brazen: They put up "Private Beach" signs on a stretch of beach which is decidedly not private. Oh, they have a small patch of beach that's theirs, but it's just right by their building and not the whole beach, and even in Malibu where the homeowners REALLY don't want the riff-raff around, the beach is still public to the high water mark (and the issue there is access between the zillion-dollar homes). And you know about New Jersey towns and beach badges. The question is: Should ANY beach be private, or do we have a right to access the water and sand? (Daily Breeze, Torrance)
