Love It Or Leave It Or Go Stand In Line At The Concession Stand Until It's Over

Lost in the Colin Kaepernick debate is one thing that nobody really has a good answer for: Why do they play the National Anthem before games, anyway? They don't do it anywhere else in the world, and for a lot of games, it's such a non-issue that they do it early so that it doesn't interfere with TV coverage. And we don't pledge allegiance or sing the anthem before movies, concerts, plays... so, why the enforced show of patriotism at ballgames? I understand how it started during World War II, but how did it become such a tradition, and an issue? (New York Times)
