The Most Important Story You Aren't Following
-
People have no idea how huge the story is about the bankruptcy of a company of which most of you have never heard: the Korean shipping firm Hanjin. This will affect you and everyone in your audience. Simply put, Hanjin is one of the world's biggest shipping firms and much of the imported stuff you buy, from stuff at the grocery to cars and TV sets, comes on Hanjin ships. Exports, too. Where I live, you can look out at the Catalina Channel and see Hanjin ships coming in and out of Long Beach harbor with goods destined for you. And with this bankruptcy, all the ships have stopped, literally: there are a lot of ships sitting in the water, unable to move to the docks, with goods sitting there in limbo. Nobody knows what comes next, but it WILL cost you in increased shipping prices -- doubled -- passed along to you at the cash register. (Long Beach Press-Telegram)
