Though Your Health Still Shouldn't Depend On Your Wealth
-
This guy is a well-known character in Pittsburgh, a guy who is known for bicycling everywhere, long, long distances, and he had a tragic accident and is for now paralyzed after riding off the road and crashing. Indisputably sad. But there's a separate topic here: The guy has no job, by choice. He's in his 50s and has never held a job; he lives with his mother, he spends no money but makes none, either, and now, while he does have Obamacare insurance, he has very high deductibles, can't pay them, and is asking for help from his fans to pay the bills. Question: Should someone who has chosen not to earn a dollar be asking for handouts when the inevitable emergency happens? Should people give him money because he didn't want to earn any money himself? (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)
