All Those Crosswords And Cryptograms For NOTHING?!? Damn

For years, we've been told that puzzles and "brain games" are good for your memory and focus, training your brain to be more efficient and smarter. Guess what? The latest research shows that they don't work. "Brain training" doesn't have an effect. There IS one exception, though: Games focusing on a specific task do make you better at that one thing. But that's no different from practicing, and there's no evidence otherwise that your memory or cognitive skills will be improved by those games. So, back to playing mindless video games, right? (NPR)
