You Say You Like Surprises, Right? Well....
-
So, for the last few weeks, news media have been trumpeting the study that extrapolated a major elevated threat of earthquakes along the San Andreas fault -- a BIG quake -- from smaller seismic activity out in the Salton Sea (motto: "You Really Don't Want To Come Out Here"). But now, as was expected by experts but buried by the news media, the risk has dropped back to normal levels. Look, news alarmists, let me explain something to you here: There is ALWAYS a threat of a "big one." ALWAYS. You have to be prudent, be prepared, but we aren't necessarily going to get much of a warning for the next one (and there WILL be a next one). That's not going to make a great headline or a "BREAKING NEWS" segment, but it's how things are. (Los Angeles Times)
