It Was A Dump, But It Was OUR... Okay, It Was Pretty Much Just A Dump

If I told you that there was a building that hosted a Democratic National Convention, was the scene of concerts for some of the biggest names in music (including Springsteen, as his favored local venue), was the original (after moving) home court of an iconic NBA franchise, and was in use for almost 60 years, and it was being torn down, you'd assume there'd be some nostalgia involved and the locals would be mourning its demise, right? The building is the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, and there is zero nostalgia being attached to it as it finally succumbs to the wrecking ball. The place was spartan, no doubt, and not that comfortable, and kinda shabby for the last 30 years, but it was a place everyone in L.A. happened through at some point (I saw several Clippers games there, and minor league hockey), and maybe we should have some more kind thoughts about the joint as it gets ripped down to make way for the new soccer stadium. Not that I'll miss the place much, but still. (Los Angeles Times)
