The Trick Isn't To Get In, The Trick Is To STAY In
-
Check out this story about a white-haired, besuited gentleman in Toronto who's managed to scam homes, furniture, meals, and fancy club membership despite paying for nothing, simply because he looks the part. A sixty-something white-haired white guy in a suit can apparently talk his way, or slip his way, into everything and nobody initially asks whether he belongs there. It's only in that he tends to slip up -- he talks too much, and he's obsessed with cozying up to the management and players at the Maple Leafs so much that he's officially banned from Air Canada Centre -- and that he doesn't pay the bills that he's become persona non grata at a lot of Toronto institutions. (He's also, allegedly, delusional, but you could assume that from some of his behavior.) Bottom line is, though, that if you act like you belong someplace, and look the part, nobody's going to say a thing. If you DO belong but don't look like you do (coughRacismcough), you're more likely to have problems. (National Post)
