Is That Anywhere Near The Duchy Of Grand Fenwick?

This is a cool article about a guy who noticed something strange: For reasons too complicated to explain here (the article handles that), neither Serbia nor Croatia has claimed a 2.5 square mile patch of land right on the Danube, land that ended up empty and unwanted at the end of the civil war in the '90s. So he claimed it and created his own country, a little slice of ultra-libertarianism with passports and citizenship and.... well, nothing else, because not only has he not been able to build there, Croatia won't let him go into that land, physically. He can't even go through Croatia to get to his country, which he calls Liberland. And his foreign minister turned out to be a notorious scam artist, which wasn't ideal, either. His plan now is to dock houseboats on the Danube next to Liberland and make that the start of his country. And the other problem is that the land became unclaimed because of a technicality in a border dispute; if that's ever solved, the land will become part of, probably, Croatia. Whatever happens, the idea of starting your own country is pretty interesting, even if nobody will ever really let you do it. (BBC)
