Shut Up And Pump
-
If your local gas station has those pumps with little TV monitors, you know how annoying (and loud) they can be. Frankly, I don't want the gas pump to blare out bad Seth Meyers clips when all I want is to fill up and get out of there. But not only is that NOT going away, it's getting worse: BP is testing "Miles," a new Millennial-targeted "interactive pump" with "artificial intelligence to engage customers with Pandora music stations, trivia, photos for social sharing and witty banter." It talks to you, makes bad jokes, offers video games... First, I don't want that anywhere near me. Second, all this will do is slow up the transaction and delay the next customer. "People like to be entertained during their five minutes of downtime," the guy who sells these things says. No, they want to get away from there. (Chicago Tribune)
