'Whose Life Is It Anyway?,' But For Real
-
A psychiatric patient with anorexia -- she's 69 pounds -- has won the right in court to not eat or be force-fed. In short, if she doesn't want to eat, you can't make her, and if that means she'll die, that's up to her. Her family, the hospital, her legal guardian, and practically everyone agreed that she should be able to make that decision for herself. The only objections came from... you guessed it, the state. You can also guess all the issues that arise from this, since we've been down this road before with families and individuals wanting to make their own decisions on life-or-death matters and the state getting involved.
