Shhh, Don't Tell Trump About This. You Know He'd Think It Was A Good Idea

A court in India has ordered movie theaters nationwide to play the national anthem before movies. There's no law mandating it, but the judges decided that people should be forced to show patriotism. I've always wondered what the point is of playing the anthem before ball games here -- I understand how it started but this isn't World War II and most people in a ballpark aren't REALLY showing patriotism so much as they're standing and waiting for it to end so they can go get another beer. And forced patriotism seems antithetical to freedom. But that's the prevailing mood around the world -- freedom be damned, we have symbolism to show. (BBC)
