On The Other Hand, The Customers At That Diner Have Never Been Safer
-
Hey, it's another story from the town of my childhood, which seems to be coming up with weird, almost Florida-like stories lately (it's in New Jersey, so not too different). This time, it's about a cop who is suing over being fired for eating at a diner while he was supposed to be on duty, specifically on one occasion during which he was chowing down with some other cops when a call came in to go to the aid of a heart attack victim, who died while the cop finished his food, paid his share of the bill, then drove really, really fast, only to get there too late. He contends that the victim would have died anyway. That's a lame argument, but, you know, he could have saved his job had he only gone to the traditional cop-on-the-job food location, Dunkin Donuts. Diners take more time. At DD, you order, pay, and if a call comes in, you're on the road in seconds -- and you can take your coffee and cruller with you. (Bergen Record)
