U.S. life expectancy has declined slightly for the first time in years, and the experts are baffled. Sure, heart disease and diabetes are a concern, and suicide's been in the news, but Americans are outliers in this, with the rest of the world still seeing life expectancy increase. No, they don't think that obesity or the opioid epidemic caused the drop, either. And cancer deaths are down, the only good news in this report. So... what could it be? (New York Times)
