Another Option For Cleveland Browns Fans

This is fascinating, and there's a new book about it: in Japan, people who feel like they're at the end of their rope and are mortally embarrassed by their situation will disappear themselves -- they're called "evaporating people," or johatsu -- and what they do is they just walk away from everything and everybody, mostly move to a strange, scruffy neighborhood controlled by the Yakuza where nobody else will go, and that's it from them. Their families, friends, and co-workers never hear from them again and never find them. You can go there, live under an assumed identity, and, basically, vanish without killing yourself. There are even businesses that will help you do a "midnight move" to disappear. You'd have to be suicide-level distraught but unable to actually commit suicide to do this, but, apparently, every year, almost 100,000 people choose "evaporation." (New York Post)
