There's Such A Thing As Too Sweet
-
We can always use a little history lesson, and this chapter of our history is one of which that until now I was unaware: 98 years ago from Sunday, Boston was hit by a giant, devastating, fatal wave of molasses. Molasses? Yes. In 1919, a 2.5 million gallon tank of molasses ruptured and sent a 15 to 40 foot high wave of goop into the North End at 35 mph, killing 21 people and injuring 150. It got thicker as it went along. Why did they have a tank that big for molasses? A company used it to make rum and munitions, an interesting combination for sure. A molasses wave sounds ridiculous and comical, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't at all funny at the time. (Boston.com)
