I'll Wait For The Movie. On Netflix

You've seen it with concerts, and now, as "Hamilton" spreads to London's West End and the "Harry Potter" stage production heads to Broadway, they're trying different schemes to prevent scalping, including the trick some concerts use, the one where there's no ticket at all and you have to show up with the credit card with which you bought the ticket. The other option is for the producers to hire people to scour the Internet and invalidate any tickets being resold. Either way, the question is whether the public WANTS scalping stopped. Yes, it's bad that scalpers and speculators jump in and buy up tickets as soon as they go on sale, but on the other hand, the secondary market might be the only way for many people to even have a chance to get the tickets at all. The REAL reason they want to stop it is that the producers, like sports teams and anyone else selling tickets, want a piece of ALL the action. If someone's reselling a ticket for a profit, they want a piece, too. They wouldn't be willing to take a loss when a ticket sells at less than face value, would they? (New York Times)
