At Least He Knows He'll Be The Talk Of The Class Reunion For The Rest Of His Life
-
What were you doing two years after school? I was, um, working in radio, making peanuts, the usual. This guy graduated Temple U. and in two years, he was in charge of a $54 million Ponzi scheme. No, really, he and his girlfriend, with an unlicensed securities salesman, started a "green energy" company, hired famous people like John Elway (!) to help them pitch it, raised all that money, and it was all an illusion. The prosecutor says that it didn't quite start out as a fraud, that the guy got in too deep with his plans and turned to the salesman/huckster as a lifeline, but are people such easy marks that they'd fall for some guy saying, with no apparent evidence, that this was going to be the next Microsoft? Are people so greedy that they'll fall for... ah, what am I saying? Of COURSE they are. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
