So Many Memories, And If You Give Me Some Time, I'll Come Up With Some, Maybe
-
Not quite 25 years after it opened, the Georgia Dome is now closed and awaiting the wrecking ball, and the reports about it make it sound as venerable as Wrigley Field, which it most certainly was not. There was nothing remarkable about it, though it was totally serviceable. It's a monument to the way cities spend billions to make rich team owners happy: Maybe the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium was at the end of the line (it was undersized and without much in the way of revenue-producing boxes, though it was just 27 years old at the time), but there's nothing particularly wrong with the Dome that a little renovation couldn't have fixed. But Arthur Blank wanted the Mercedes-Benz Cornhole next door, so goodbye, Dome. (WGCL-TV/Atlanta)
