Nobody To Blame But Yourself, Or At Least Your Body

Why do people get cancer? A new study confirming a previous study says that 66% of cancer cases are mostly basically bad luck, that there's not a lot anyone can do about it, and the human body just does that. Two thirds of cancers, they say, are the result of genes "making mistakes" -- mutations -- as they replicate. 5% are inherited (like the BRCA gene) and 29% are from "modifiable" factors (like not wearing sunscreen or not getting vaccinated against HPV). Some researchers don't want people to think that cancer is essentially a crapshoot -- that it happens no matter what you do, whether you eat right or not, for example -- but this research says that it is.
