If Clearasil Spent On Product Placement, Maybe Things Would Be Different

Dermatologists are pointing out that Hollywood tends to make people with bad skin villains. Whether it's Freddy Kreuger or the green Wicked Witch of the West or Darth Vader without the mask, they're finding skin problems on a lot of movie villains, although some are a little bit of a stretch (Mr. Potter in "It's a Wonderful Life" had alopecia, for example, and his baldness was often focused upon by the camera). Heroes don't have skin problems, although a few have scars, usually to denote toughness and valor. Do villains' skin problems even register with you as a signifier of evil, though? Does that contribute to a negative image for real-life folks with skin problems? (Washington Post)
