Yes, Sports Cards Still Exist, Though I'm Not Sure Why
-
This is a story about another category of retail that's all but disappeared: the baseball card shop. The survivors have moved away from sports cards, which died off when adults turned them into "investments," and into Pokemon and other anime cards and games. But I remember the heyday of card shops, and they... sucked. They were worse than indie record shops with elitist, condescending staff; at card stores, they delighted in telling you that the cards you wanted to sell were worthless (with flaws undetectable by the human eye) but that their dreck was worth a lot. Card stores and dealers went bust? Good riddance. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
