That's Sort Of A Guilty Plea, But Not A Good One

The guy accused of shooting five random people to death at a mall in Washington state last September killed himself in jail, never having said why he did it. They were awaiting a competency evaluation when he killed himself. People often say that when a defendant kills himself or herself that it "saves the expense of a trial," but if you're in the victims' families, don't you want closure, to know why and how it happened? Would this be too abrupt an ending? (Skagit Valley Herald)
