They're Cool To Look At Until You Slip In Their Poop
-
This has been a topic in my area -- there's been national coverage of it -- and it's happening in the Miami area, too, the issue of nuisance peacocks and what to do about them. They shriek. They pound on your roof as they hop across, ripping up shingles as they go. They attack cars, thinking their own reflection is another peacock. They dig holes. And they poop. They poop a LOT. Have I mentioned that tourists like to follow them, blocking the roads in residential areas? So peacocks and peahens are basically exotic versions of Canada geese. But what can you do about them? Someone started killing them in the town next to mine, and that's not right. My own town tried moving them -- literally rounding them up and physically moving them -- and that seemed to help, because we haven't had any peafowl on our roof or in the yard for a while. But when peafowl are fouling up your whole neighborhood with poop, you'll want to take drastic action. (Miami Herald)
