Pet Peeve Time!: This restaurant critic is decrying the trend of tables too close together in restaurants, and, yeah. Years ago, I noticed that it was common in Paris to have bistros with tables so crammed together that they pulled the table out to let someone sit on the other side; there was just no room to get between the tables. The result: no private conversations and a lot of noise. But Europeans are used to sharing tables. Americans aren't, and it IS annoying. (Washington Post)
