They Wouldn't Have Cut Mike Trout. But Mike Trout Wouldn't Have Punched Anyone

The star of independent minor league baseball's Gary SouthShore RailCats is no longer on the team, even though he was fourth in the American Association in batting average. Why? Because he allegedly walked up to a random wedding guest at a St. Paul hotel and punched the guy. The team buried the release in a press release Monday that highlighted the signing of a pitcher, but you don't release your leading hitter with nobody noticing. The question is when does hitting .354 buy you protection when you do something stupid and when does it end your career? If you're hitting like that in affiliated ball, maybe you get suspended but not cut, even if you SHOULD be cut. If you're in independent league ball, your career is basically over. Also, his OPS is way lower than you'd want. No power. (St. Paul Pioneer Press)
