Respect For The Departed Is Not A Competition
-
When Memorials Collide: A 13-year-old girl on a bike got hit by a bus and died. Friends created one of those roadside memorials to honor her. And then someone noticed that someone had removed all the items and thrown them in the trash. The memorial was recreated... and the same woman who trashed it before did it again. Her reason: It was in front of, and partially blocking, a Los Angeles County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway sign on the same corner. She didn't think one memorial should get in front of the other. We've seen debates over whether roadside memorials are appropriate or not, whether they're tacky or not, whether they should be left up indefinitely or not, but this is the first case I've seen where there's an issue with dueling roadside memorials.
