They Count On You Not Paying Attention
-
I can tell you from experience that rooting through old public records can turn up the most interesting things. In Boston, some teens looking to raise money for a new hockey rink in their neighborhood, working on a tip from a neighborhood council member who remembered something about the promise, went searching through records and found this: 24 years ago, when the owners of the Boston Garden wanted state funds for a new arena, they agreed to host three fundraisers a year for the city recreational agency. And they never held even one. Now, they have to come up with a plan to make up for 24 years of failure. I wonder what you could find if you went searching through city agreements in your town. (Years ago, at New Jersey 101.5, we found a promise that the Turnpike and Parkway tolls would end once the initial bonds were paid off. That was programming for a year.) (Boston Globe)
